More About Me!

About Me

I am an internal medicine resident with a passion for both medicine and people. I enjoy distilling dense medical knowledge into easy-to-understand information that is relevant and applicable to the average patient. This blog is my way of sharing my thoughts on various medical opinions, healthcare topics, health tips, and medical stories with the world.

In my limited spare time, I love spending time with my wonderful fiancée, petting my three cats, singing, playing guitar, exercising, exploring the outdoors and local restaurants, and occasionally playing video games.

Professional Background

I am currently a resident physician completing my training in internal medicine. This means I have completed medical school and earned my medical degree (MD), and I am now undergoing further residency training to become licensed in the specialty of internal medicine. In other words, I am a doctor but am not yet licensed to practice independently in any specialty. I completed my bachelor’s degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, and received my MD from the Emory School of Medicine. I am currently in my internal medicine residency at the University of Tennessee. Most of my work involves treating adults in both hospital and outpatient primary care clinic settings.

My Road to Medicine

My first realization that medicine might be for me was actually in high school. My father had me take one of those career quizzes online to explore what I might like to pursue after school. Believe it or not, my number one match was a surgeon! This makes me laugh now, as I did not enjoy my surgical experience in medical school. My surgical shelf exam was my lowest score! In fact, I wasn’t even a great student in high school—just a B average with some C’s sprinkled in. It wasn’t until college that I began to take my studies seriously and discovered my love for medical sciences and teaching.

While medicine is certainly hard work, I absolutely love engaging with patients and my colleagues. I am honored to hear strangers’ deepest fears and closest-held secrets within a few minutes of meeting them and to have something to offer in return. Internal medicine affords me the opportunity to know adults from every kind of background and treat diseases of every organ system. Internal medicine physicians are often the first and last line of defense for patients, coordinating the entirety of care from consulting specialists to educating family members.

The logo should convey a sense of clarity and approachability while capturing the essence of personal experience and research.

My Philosophy and Values

I recognize that our healthcare system is broken. Medical care can be complex, intimidating, and expensive, and often those who need it most have the least access to quality care. Nevertheless it is my goal to help my patients navigate through this challenging system to achieve their optimal health. My approach to medicine is to provide compassionate, empathetic, and patient-centered care while staying up-to-date with the ever-expanding medical research to ensure the best outcomes. I believe part of achieving good outcomes is ensuring that patients are their own health advocates. This means my job is to help educate and work collaboratively with patients to help them understand their own health, diagnoses, and treatments.
